2019 Vosne Romanee Les Gaudichots, Domaine Marchard de Gramont (Case of 6 bottles in OC)

Les Gaudichots is one of Vosne’s little rarities. This is the tiny strip of land next to La Tâche that is rarely seen or heard of and with an annual production of around 2,000 bottles, it is easy to understand why so few cellars will ever contain a bottle. This little patch of vines was included in the La Tâche Monopole until 1929, before being made into its own Premier Cru as La Tâche became more focused. There are only 4 owners in this tiny vineyard: Forey, Dujac, DRC and Marchard de GramontIt therefore goes without saying Les Gaudichots is incredibly rare, Allen Meadows writes “The first challenge is simply to find a bottle, considering that so few are produced annually”, whilst Steen Ohman writes for WineHog that it’s “So rare they don’t allow critic tastings, “I have never seen or tasted Les Gaudichots from Gramont.” I don’t know whether the domaine even offers the wine for tasting.”

With so much in common with La Tâche in terms of terroir, flavour profile and ageability it’s hard to understand the vast price difference. Although Les Gaudichots may not be cheap, compared to La Tâche it looks like one of Burgundy’s best kept secrets. Not scored.
