2017 Nekeas, El Chaparral de Vega Sindoa ‘Old Vines’ Garnacha, Navarra, Spain

$160

The El Chaparral is named after the small Spanish oak trees called ‘Chaparro’ that surround the vineyards. The wine is Garnacha from vines planted between 1890 and 1930, divided into 40 small parcels planted in the “vaso” system. Yields are very low. It is thought that these Garnacha plots are the most northernly in all of Spain. The grapes are hand harvested, macerated for 30 days and fermented over seven days.
